LONG WAY DOWN [Official]
Award winning Scottish singer Emily Smith and New Zealand born songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jamie McClennan have worked together for almost twenty years. With sublime double vocals, guitars, accordion and viola their music draws influences from folk, Americana and beyond.
Having released eight albums of mainly trad/folk music under Emily’s name with Jamie in both a performing and producing role, their new project Smith and McClennan sees them come together as a duo. The new album ‘Small Town Stories’ (released Nov ’19) features original material (written by McClennan) drawing inspiration from their shared life experience as touring musicians and in recent years, becoming parents. Performed with heart and consummate craft the result is an intimate, accessible and ultimately uplifting album.
The couple allow us an intimate look into their world and McClennan is an incredibly gifted lyricist. Together they create dreamy magic that pulls on the heartstrings and makes you feel. What more could you ask for from an album?
Every now and then an album is released that surpasses all others within its genre. Small Town Stories is one of those albums. I hope this receives the airplay and recognition it deserves...
There are fewer traditional and more Nashville influences at play here, with McClennan’s songwriting providing a foundation for some fine harmony duo singing above his laid-back but very effective guitar and fiddle accompaniment..
